HOW TO ROCK ONE OF THE SEASON'S HOTTEST TRENDS; PEPLUM
A peplum is the short strip of fabric that is flared, gathered or pleated and attached at the waist of a woman's jacket, dress, skirt or blouse. It is a time-honored designer's device designed to exaggerate the curve of the hips rather than mask it. It's been a haute-couture staple for decades .Even the ancient Greeks were rather partial to a peplum but this season it hit the mainstream as seen on all the runways. It's a big hit for spring, summer 2012. The peplum trend has the power to give you killer curves like never before. Celebrities all over and even royals like Kate Middleton have embraced peplum, wearing the flirty frill on the red carpet and around town. Giving the illusion of a small waist and womanly hips, it is the sexiest shape of the season. It can be worn in the office or on a night out. Keep reading to find out how you can step out in style with a ruffle of your own.
HOW TO MAKE PEPLUM WORK FOR YOU
First of all, work out whether it suits your shape. It gives great definition to the boyish figure, creating the image of curves and enhances the woman with boobs and bum. If you are apple-shaped which means you carry most of your body weight around your mid-section, it may be wise to avoid them as they draw attention to the stomach and waist, work with a nipped in corset if you really want to give it a try.
Secondly, a peplum should sit properly. Ideally, the skirt should start at your waist down and outwards but not too much. Avoid patterns-something pronounced like the peplum doesn't need them or if they are included, make them very subtle. Balance the proportions with something very fitted on top.
TYPES OF PEPLUM
There are two ways to rock this trend: fitted and loose. Each style creates a very different look for the wearer, though both lend a certain retro-chic and feminine vibe.
Fitted peplum is typically a slight flare worked into a tailored suit, jacket, pencil skirt or sheath or pencil-style dress. This type of fit has the ability to cinch in the wearer's waist, making it look smaller which makes it well suited for women with curves. Go for a fitted style when you want an instantly slimmed down physique.
Loose peplum is great for more boyish figures, as a flowing flare at the waist can create the illusion of curves, where there are none. This style tends to have a more high-fashion look as opposed to the fitted style which has a more retro feel to it. For a chic daytime look, wear a peplum jacket in a solid color over a pair of pants or pencil skirt. When it comes to evening attire, the sky is the limit. If you are on the big side, this look is better in darker colors. Are you a fan of the peplum trend?
