NIGERIAN GIRL,15, ON HER WAY TO HARVARD,AFTER BEING ACCEPTED BY 13 UNIVERSITIES
When most girls hit 15, school is far from their list of priorities.But for Saheela Ibraheem, of Edison, New Jersey, not only is school her top priority but that school just happens to be Harvard.Saheela was not only accepted into Harvard at the young age of 15 but also MIT and 13 other schools including Princeton and Columbia.Click on read more below to continue....
According to CBS New York, Saheela skipped two grades - sixth and ninth - and said the key to success is to figure out what you love to learn as soon as possible.She said she was five years old when she realised which direction she wanted her life to take.
She told CBS: 'If you are passionate about what you do, and I am passionate about most of these things, especially with math and science, it will work out well.'
Speaking about being at Harvard she said: 'I'll be one of the youngest, but I won't be the youngest.Saheela joins a
growing number of New Jersey students going to college
before they are old enough to drive.Her mother gave a
glimpse into the life of her gifted daughter saying she has
always been way ahead of the academic game since she
was in kindergarten.She said''she's like always independent.
I never get to help with her homework because she'd say ''it's my work mommy,not your's''.
As well as English,the teenager speaks Arabic,Spanish and
Latin and wants to become a research scientist and study
the brain.Teachers at her current school,The Wardlaw-Hartridge School told CBS she was an old soul.Jim O'Halloran said ''I believe she is 15 years-old because I'm told that.But other than that,I have a hard time.Saheela also
plays the trombone,sings in the choir and plays softball and soccer.
Her advice for other students is ''kids should try to listen to their parents,most of the time.They know what they are doing''.
