COURT SAVES 14 YEAR-OLD MARRIAGE FROM DIVORCE

An Ikorodu Customary Court in Lagos on Monday saved a 14-year-old marriage from collapsing.
The President of the court, Mrs. Risikat Ekerin, and the other members, reunited the couple, Balogun and Abiodun, after several counselling sessions.Click on read more below to continue...

Ekerin also asked Adedayo, 45, to sign an undertaking to adequately cater for the needs of his family and to be a loving husband.
The plaintiff, Abiodun, had on Oct. 23 asked the court to dissolve her 14-year-old marriage, to enable her to “move on with her life.”
Abiodun, 40, alleged that Balogun sacked her since last year and never allowed her to see her three children.
“He sent me packing because we had a little misunderstanding; he usually abused my parents and battered me when I was with him.
“He denied me access to my children and also threatened to kill me anytime he sees me with my children; sometimes ago, he saw me on the road and molested me.
“I want this court to separate us and grant me the custody of my children because he cannot take proper care of my children due to the nature of his work,” she said.
Balogun, however, did not deny the claims but urged the court that the case be settled amicably.
“I sent her packing because I suspected her movement; she told me she was going to Church and never came back until 10 days later.
“I don’t want to leave her, I have been begging her to come back home, please help me to beg her,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the husband had earlier prostrated for his wife, pleading for reconciliation in court.
