TRENDS FROM MET GALA 2012: WHAT THE STARS WORE
The stars turned up in droves for the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, recently and they pushed the style envelope while they were at it. This year's Met Gala celebrated two Italian icons from different eras of the fashion design world; Muccia Prada and Elsa Sciaparelli. The Met gala night is like the Oscars of fashion or super-bowl of fashion. I have always been fascinated with this gala for all its avant-garde fashion. For the first time in history, the red carpet was streamed live. Expectedly ,the stars did not disappoint on fashion's biggest, boldest night. Some of the trends on display included, lace, bright and vivid colors, feathers, velvet, silk, metallics, print-mixing,sequins, florals, sheer and peplum. Here's a look at who wore what.
BEYOUNCE KNOWLES; The People Magazine World's Most Beautiful Woman easily hangs on to her title in a majorly sheer Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci embroidered gown with a jaw dropping purple ombre train. Well, going majorly sheer is one way to show you have lost all the baby weight,B.Click on read more below to continue....
CATE BLANCHETT; One of the many stars who chose to ruffle feathers on their dresses. Cate made a striking entrance in a floaty, trumpet hem black Alexander McQueen gown.
EVA MENDES; Eva joined the many stars who opted for peplum at the event. Her ensemble easily stands out, thanks to whimsical embroidery and a two-tone clutch (all by Prada).
SARAH JESSICA PARKER; She was in a formal, floral-accented Valentino ball gown to accompany the designer on the red carpet.
ELIZABETH BANKS; Taking print-mixing to the next level and causing jaws to drop, the Hunger Games star makes a major statement in a plaid peplum dress with a cape-like addition.
SOLANGE KNOWLES AND RACHEL ROY; Both wearing streamlined, vividly-hued Rachel Roy dresses, the DJ and the designer set off their sleek silhouettes with brighter clutches.
KRISTEN WIIG; One of Time's 100 Most Influential People continues to stand out, wearing a full-skirt orange Stella McCartney lace number .
LALA ANTHONY; Lala wore an electric blue Zac Posen dress with intricate bodice detailing. The star arrived with her New York Knicks hubby Carmelo Anthony.
MARY-KATE OLSEN; A designer herself, Mary-Kate celebrates the two similarly avant-garde women of the MET exhibition with a Victorian-inspired high-neck black silk gown.
JESSICA ALBA; Going for a golden goddess look with a one-shouldered, draped Michael Kors gown, Jessica shimmered on the red carpet.
CAMERON DIAZ; The star was all smiles as she rocked her shorter do against the supersexy draped back of her Stella McCartney sequined silk gown.
NINA DORBER; In a super-dramatic velvety Donna Karan Atelier gown with a burn- out beaded detailing, the Vampire diaries star killed it on the red carpet.
LANA DEL RAY; The actress looked dark and glamorous in a Joseph Altudan sparkling silver bustier gown which she accented with a show-stopping cape.
