N96M BRIBE : I TOOK MONEY,NOT BRIBE-LAWAN
Embattled and suspended Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Monitoring of Subsidy Regime,Mr Farouk Lawan was at the House of Reps yesterday to appear before the House Committee on Ethics and Priviledges.Lawan was grilled for over four hours and details of his testimonies have revealed he admitted taking money from oil marketer,Femi Otedola ''and not a bribe.'' to expose Otedola. He tried to draw a distinction between a bribe and taking money.
The House Committee on Ethics and Priviledges, contrary to its assurance of having an open inquiry decided to have a closed door inquiry due to the sensitive nature of he investigation so that others who will be called to appear before the committee will not take advantage of Lawan's testimonies and use the information to work on their testimonies.Sources who are privy to the details of Lawan's testimonies say Lawan had text messages, call logs and other evidence to show he did not initiate the transaction.
Lawan when asked about the whereabouts of the money told the committee that a lot more information will be available as the police and other agencies continue with their investigations. This man must think other people are fools like him.He is just trying to buy time as the money is not with the information with the police. If he didn't collect bribe which he already shared or spent,he should just show Nigerians the money as the purpose has been achieved, Otedola has been exposed. He should stop fooling himself, not Nigerians.
