SEVERAL DIE AS FLOODS WRECK HAVOC IN LAGOS
Lagos had its share of the worldwide flooding yesterday as several lives have been reported lost. Roads and homes were flooded,cars and properties damaged and motorists and commuters stranded as torrential rains enveloped the metropolis and its suburbs.It was a nightmarish experience in areas that were worst hit like Oshodi,Bariga-Shomolu,Murtala Mohammed airport road, Apapa-Oshodi expressway,Gbagada,Surulere,Ikorodu Road,Mende,Maryland, Iyana-Ipaja,Ejigbo and several other areas.Click on read more below to continue...
The rain which started on Wednesday evening,increased in intensity around 1am and did not subside until late Thursday morning in some areas.Many early commuters and motorists were stranded as floods had taken over their neighbourhoods making it difficult for them to get to their destinations.
Several people were carried away by flood waters in Mafoluku area of Oshodi while in Bariga,a portion of a building collapsed when a fence collapsed on the building and killed a 22year-old young man who was sleeping in his room when the debris fell all over his body Meterologists have warned that more rains are expected and people living in low areas or flood-prone areas should look for alternative places to stay during this peak June-July period.
