TRAGEDY AGAIN ON LAGOS/IBADAN EXPRESSWAY ; TANKER FIRE BURNS 24 VEHICLES

I received a BB message from a SSB (SusanSavvy Blog) reader about 7pm last night who left Lagos about 2pm but was stuck in traffic till about 7: 15pm that vehicles were burning on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.I tried to verify what happened but unfortunately I guess the network was bad as I didn't get a reply.

Yesterday was another day of tragedy on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway as reported today in most of the newspapers.A tanker carrying fuel fell and caught fire. The fire spread and completely burnt 15 articulated vehicles,a luxury bus, five mini buses,a car and two pick-up vans.Luckily no life was lost but several people sustained burns.

In the resultant gridlock, thousands of passengers including the wife of Oyo State governor,Mrs Ajimobi and worshippers at the Holy Ghost Night of the Redeemed Christian Chirch of God were held up in traffic for between 5 to 12 hours. The traffic jam stretched over 20 km causing a lot of hardship to commuters.

Yesterday's incident ocurred barely 48 hours after a similar incident happened on thursday where a fuel tanker lost control in Ibafo axis of the lagos-Ibadan expressway, setting 9 tankers and 7 trailers abaze and killing 5 people.
