SEC employees protesting Oteh's recall, inset Arunma Oteh

The Presidency on Wednesday recalled Ms Arunma Oteh, suspended Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission.Oteh was sent on compulsory leave by the SEC Board to enable external auditors examine the records of the Commission on transactions covering ''SEC Project 50'' which she supervised.Click on read more below to continue....
A circular dated July 17,2012 and signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,Anyim Pius Anyim, gave Oteh a clean bill of health on the corruption charges leveled against her.The circular, copies of which were made available to the State House correspondents, said Oteh was neither indicted for fraud nor criminal breach in any form by the audit report. The circular,
however, said Oteh was found wanting for administrative lapses reported against her and administrative procedures that were not thoroughly observed.
The purpose of this letter is to recall you from your leave and to caution that you must henceforth endeavour to diligently observe all extant rules and administrative procedures in the conduct of all official transactions it said.

Workers at the SEC headquarters, protested for about two hours yesterday,
bringing the stock market to a temporary halt, accusing President Jonathan of shielding corruption by recalling Oteh when investigations into her alleged offences had not been concluded. The decision to recall her has elicited an outrage among civil rights organisations, labour unions, stakeholders in the capital market and members of the House of Representatives as the House Ad-hoc committee on the near-collapse of the capital market had also indicted Oteh in it's report and recommended her prosecution. The House is meeting today to take a decision on the report and the legislators feel that the Presidency's decision to recall Oteh is a deliberate move to pre-empt the House.
