Four of the gunmen had apparently been lurking in a rickety carparked the school gate,awaiting the VC's arrival.As soon as they
sighted his two-vehicle convoy,the gunmen jumped out and started
shooting in the air.Six others appeared from nowhere and attacked
the convoy.They shot and deflated the four tyres of the police van
escorting the VC.A policeman in the escort van who tried to
resist them was shot while the gunmen dragged the VC's orderly
and driver out of the car and drove off with Onyegi in his official
Honda car.Some of the gunmen also jumped into a car they had parked at a motor park at the school's entrance and drove behind the VC'scar.
